Moraira

Moraira is a small town nestled between Javea and Calpe; Moraira is a tranquil town on the Costa Blanca in the La Marina about half way between Alicante 80 kms to its south and Valencia 108 kms to its north. Barcelona is 438 kms to the north. Moraira remains one of the most unspoilt resorts on the Costa Blanca, with 8km of beautiful coastline backed by mountains.

Moraira has more than 2,000 hectares under cultivation and 1,000 hectares of vineyards where they grow Muscatel grapes for wine making. The terrain slopes gently down from the pine clad foothills to the coast. providing views of the coastline uncluttered with high-rise buildings.The Moraira valley has been designated as green belt.The Local Authority has prevented the development, characteristic of other Spanish coastal resorts, by exerting strong planning control since the beginning and the only buildings higher than two stories have been built in Moraira village centre.

Thankfully, the local authority has jealously guarded the appearance of Moraira, which has prevented the over-developed characteristics of other Spanish resorts. There are no high rise holiday hotels here. In fact, there are no package holiday hotels here at all. Instead, beautiful private villas and "pueblo style" developments line the slopes of the valley, which gently decline towards the beach and town

ç If you’re seeking a typically Spanish town with all the ingredients for the perfect summer escape - holidays in Moraira have it all, and then some. You’ll find the main hub of this tranquil town in the atmospheric cobbled square, which is lined with shops, restaurants and bars. Fanning out from here are pretty whitewashed houses and if you keep on going towards the turquoise-blue seas that are framed by dazzling-white cliffs, you’ll come across the marina. Tucking into a slap up meal at one of the enticing eateries here and watching the boats sailing in and a popular pastime here. Of course, you might simply want to spend summer holidays in Moraira on the cashmere-soft sands. And many of the captivating coves scalloped along the coastline here are Blue Flag beaches, to boot. Feast on the days catch at a harbour side fish restaurant and finish with a nightcap overlooking the beach, the whispering waves providing your own private lullaby.

Originally a small fishing village, Moraira has grown into an ideal holiday retreat of perfect proportions, retaining much of its original character and atmosphere. It has attractive and colourful main streets, a picturesque Marina and wonderful blue flag sandy beaches. The choice of restaurants and bars are just too many to sample in one holiday.

There are seven recommended by Michelin (three with stars) and a huge variety of others to suit all budgets. The combination of terraced vineyards, wonderful mountains and blue sea, combine to make this an area of spectacular beauty.

The beaches are mainly small coves and bays. The largest beach, Ampolla, is situated right at the centre of the town. With its shallow waters, white sands, children’s play area and volleyball court, it is perfect for families. The delightful Portet beach lies in a bay, to the left of the marina, and is just as popular with families. The two bar/restaurants here are famous for excellent lunches and fabulous sundowners. All the beaches along this part of the coast have been awarded an EEC Blue Flag for cleanliness.

If the beach isn’t your thing, then there are plenty of other things to do.
The local shops and night market offer a really excellent choice of quality clothes, gifts and keepsakes. There is a fairground, especially suitable for young children, a fabulous Go Karting circuit, for all ages, a tennis club and three nightclubs. Also nearby are three golf courses and horse riding stables.
The larger resorts of Javea, Denia and Calpe are all within a half hour drive. Benidorm is also well within reach. Here you will find all the children’s favourites-Terra Mítica Theme park, Aqualandia Water Park and Mundomar Animal Kingdom, with its world famous dolphin show.

If countryside and mountain tops are what you seek, then within 40 minutes you can be witnessing the breathtaking views at Guadalest or at the summit of the Sierra Bernia. Also, in just over one hour, you could be in Valencia, Spain’s beautiful underestimated 3rd city.

Moraira enjoys a subtropical Mediterranean climate, with sea breezes cooling the area in summer and in winter getting protection from the cold North winds from the surrounding mountains. The area averages some 3,000 hours of sunshine each year and the average temperature exceeds 20 degrees. On average there are 325 sunny days each year. In 1986 the World Health Organisation commended the Moraira climate as one of the most equitable in the world - neither too hot in the summer nor too cold in the winter.
